DVD - TOUCH - touch workshops for blind and partially sighted children.
An educational and inspiring DVD for parents and professionals. All too often, for blind and Visually Impaired children, touching - that gateway into the world they live in – is limited to the demands of the practical, to the necessary learning of name and function. But what if children are encouraged simply... to touch? To explore different materials as texture, to experience scale, weight, form, representation, abstraction, making... and beauty?
In September 2009 the Memorial Arts Charity held workshops where young people with sight problems were able to encounter new shapes, textures and ideas through touch. A professional film of the event was made by Charlotte Trench (funded by The David Whitbread Trust and the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation) showing what we did and how, with the hope that others will want to find out more and pick up on some of the ideas for use in the home or classroom.
